COMMUNICATIONS CENTER MANAGER/BILLINGS, MONTANA
The Communications Center Manager will supervise, plan, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Communications Center including all aspects of a consolidated 9-1-1 dispatch center operating in an automated 24/7 environment and management, operation and maintenance of an 800MHz radio system that serves public safety and various City of Billings departments; to coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; and to provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chiefs.
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: select, train, motivate, and evaluate employees within the Communications Center; maintain requirements as outlined in MCA and Administrative Orders pertaining to the State 9-1-1 plan, PSAP certification, and 9-1-1 Fund distributions; ensure compliance with FCC and other agencies; troubleshoot equipment failures and malfunctions; represent the Communications Center to other City Departments, Divisions and outside agencies; assume FEMA COM-L responsibilities in the event of a community disaster and coordinate Emergency Operations Center communications per Yellowstone County’s Emergency Operations Plan. The Communications Center Manager will manage and participate in the development and administration of the division’s budget and will work with vendors on contracts and Request for Proposals (RFPs’). The successful applicant must have strong interpersonal skills.
Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Hours and days may vary due to operational needs
Salary: $35.88 – $45.76/hour, salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant’s education and experience (this salary range reflects steps 1 and 6 of a 7-step pay scale) plus excellent benefits.
· Bachelor’s degree in public safety, emergency management, public administration or a related field AND
· Six (6) or more years of supervisory experience in the areas of public safety communications or emergency communications
· Ten (10) years of public safety experience to include three (3) years of supervisory experience AND
· Experience with city government and knowledge of department and function operations
