This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Annals of Emergency Dispatch and Response (AEDR), the only peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to the study
of Emergency Dispatchers, emergency response operations, public safety/health, and emergency nurse telephone triage. An invaluable resource since 2013 to those in the field of emergency dispatch, AEDR has supported and published cutting-edge research to help further emergency dispatch science and the profession.

For decades, Emergency Dispatchers and field responders have been a critical part of the public safety system in the United States and throughout the world, with Emergency Dispatchers in the role of first, first responders for police, fire, and medical emergencies. However, the field of emergency dispatch was relatively neglected in peer-reviewed research literature in comparison to its police, fire, and medical field responder counterparts. Additionally, there was no one single journal that published peer-reviewed papers for all three disciplines: medical, fire, and police.

AEDR has played a major role in the advancement of the science of emergency dispatch by providing a comprehensive, interdisciplinary look at topics ranging from the accuracy of Chief Complaint Selection, the ability of callers to follow Dispatch Life Support (DLS) Instructions, response times including lights-and-siren responses, and the psychological challenges of working in emergency dispatch.

In addition, AEDR has been a major advocate for recognizing and furthering the emergency dispatch profession. AEDR's commitment to encouraging research and development in the field of emergency dispatch, with its focus on evidence-based practices, has greatly improved best practices and the understanding of emergency dispatch professionals everywhere.

Perhaps most notably, however, AEDR has brought together the best and brightest minds in the field of emergency dispatch, showcasing a comprehensive approach to improving emergency dispatch services. More than just a peer-reviewed journal, AEDR serves as a forum for networking and collaboration among professionals from all types of educational and professional backgrounds throughout the world.

To see where it all started, check out the Welcome Message from then Editor-in-Chief Dr. Chris Olola, which appeared in the inaugural edition. Without a doubt, AEDR will continue to be a beacon of excellence in the profession, taking the science of emergency dispatch to new heights.
